Chiropractic helps the immune system!
The first chiropractic adjustment was given to someone because they lost their hearing. DD Palmer administered that adjustment to the janitor, after the adjustment his hearing came back. This is his testimony:
"I was deaf 17 years and I expected to always remain so, for I had doctored a great deal without any benefit. I had long ago made up my mind to not take any more ear treatments, for it did me no good. Last January Dr. Palmer told me that my deafness came from an injury in my spine. This was new to me; but it is a fact that my back was injured at the time I went deaf. Dr. Palmer treated me on the spine; in two treatments I could hear quite well. That was eight months ago. My hearing remains good." - HARVEY LILLARD, 320 W. Eleventh St., Davenport, Iowa Harvey Lillard's testimony appears in the The Chiropractor, January 1897. A copy of this original testimony can be viewed in the Special Collections and Archives. DD Palmer believed chiropractic restores health and healing in a drug-less fashion by manipulating the spine and affecting the nervous system. Chiropractors have long felt that the nervous system has connections to the endocrine system and to the immune system, so therefore by affecting the nervous system you can have an effect on the endocrine and immune system. Ronald Pero in 1975 conducted a research to prove just that. Pero’s team measured 107 individuals that have received long-term chiropractic care. They found when comparing chiropractic patients with non-chiropractic patients, that the chiropractic patients have a 200% greater immune competence and a 400% greater immune competence than people with cancer or serious diseases. Pero found no variance between the differences in age groups. They tested this because they were fascinated by the relationship between cancer-inducing agents and the endocrine system, he concluded that because the endocrine system is controlled by the nervous system, that the nervous system might have an influence on the susceptibility to cancer. Pero had found various articles relating spinal cord injuries to a high rate of lymphomas and lymphatic leukaemia’s; therefore chiropractic can be a means to reduce the risk of getting cancer and other immune breakdowns and disease. Pero concluded, ‘Chiropractic may optimise whatever genetic abilities you have so that you can fully resist serious disease…I have never seen a group other than this show a 200% increase over normal patients.’ Moral to these stories, get yourself adjusted if you want to have a healthy functioning body.
